Whether you're a complete beginner or a competitive athlete, our programs are designed to build confidence, improve focus, and develop physical fitness in a fun and supportive environment.

Skill-Based, Not Age-Based

At CSFA, placement in a program is determined by your skill level — not your age. A highly talented 8-year-old can train alongside 14-year-olds if their technique warrants it. In fact, some of our nationally top-ranked fencers started competing at age 8. We meet every athlete where they are and push them as far as their dedication will take them.

Level 1 · New to Fencing

  • Correct stance, guard position, and on-guard line
  • Basic footwork — advances, retreats, lunges
  • Introduction to sabre bladework and target area

Level 2 · Building Technique

Intermediate Program

The Intermediate program is for fencers who have mastered the basics and are ready to deepen their technical and tactical repertoire. Athletes at this level begin developing a personal fencing style and take their first steps into competition — whether local events or regional tournaments.

Advancement to this level is coach-determined based on demonstrated skill — not age or time enrolled. Some athletes move up within months; others take longer. We progress every fencer at the pace that's right for them.

What You'll Develop

  • Advanced footwork combinations and distance control
  • Core sabre actions — attacks, parries, ripostes, counter-attacks
  • Tactical thinking and opponent analysis
  • Bout strategy for pools and direct elimination
  • Preparation for local and regional USA Fencing tournaments
  • USA Fencing membership and early rating pursuit

Ready to Move Up?

Coach Boris evaluates each fencer individually. When technique, tactical awareness, and competitive readiness align — you move up. There's no waiting list or fixed timetable.
